The United States and neighboring Saudi Arabia fear al Qaeda could exploit instability across Yemen

Yep. The US will whore itself for oil, so the Saudi Kings own the US. The Kings
are upset about a religious group that opposes them and their affiliation with
US/Israel. And which uses asymmetric warfare, required when facing something like
the US / Israel mil-industrial monster.

The president of Yemen, who just agreed to be a US puppet, just signed his own
death warrant.

However, Yemen's Shi'ite rebels responded positively on Saturday to a plea from Saleh, saying they were ready for talks with the government once fighting stops.

That's kinda weird; Al Q are Wahabi (Sunni) fundies, Shiites (concentrated in Iran) are
somewhat adversarial in a Lutheran/Catholic kinda way. But one imagines both
the IRA and the loyalists fighting should the Continentals invade. (Been there,
done that.)
